The NBS facility in Hiriya’s visitor center treats an average of 40 cubic meters of landfill leachates per day. Though the volume may not sound like much, landfill leachates are among the harshest types of sewage, characterized by extremally high chemical and biological oxygen demand (COD, BOD) and often by high concentrations of organic contaminants, heavy metals, toxic materials, ammonia and inorganic materials as well as refractory compounds, thus creating a very high pollutant load. Ayala’s NBS is capable of treating these harsh compounds within three days on average!
